A laptop and a Desktop a comparison

Well to start off. the difference between a laptop and a desktop.

Laptops-Small,compact,lightweight,low powered, low storage and processing capabilities. Run off of a multi-celled rechargable battery.

Desktop-Larger,heavier,high-powered,larger storage and processign capacity. Run off of a 110V outlet.

Desktop and laptop processing.

A laptop is low powered maily because of major power and size limitations.(meant to be run off of a smallbattery for a long period of time). The size limitation comes from the goal of making a small lightweight computer, you sacrifice your starageand processing power to be able to pack your computer around with you in a lightweight fashion.

Laptops are becoming more powerfull nowadays thanks to technology that allows us to extend battery life, and create processors that use less juice. You now have 160Gb-320Gb Hdd's rather than 20 0r 40. Duel and quad core laptop processors instead of single core. Processor clock's running at 2.5 to 2.9 Ghz . 1 to 4 gig's of RAM instead or 256Mb or 512Mb. 512mb videocard's with GPU's instead of 64 or 128Mb. But still with all these improvements modern desktops are able to out power a laptop anytime. Simple because it comes down to power consumption and the limits of how small you can make the parts.

A desktop again has grown exponentially in the past few years. we have went from single core processors to duel core, then from there to quad core. And to improve on that even more we have managed to fit several quad cores onto a single motherboard, making a computer with 8 or more processing cores, all running at high clock speeds of up to 3.Ghz(non-overclocked) and can be overclocked to 3.6 or even 4Ghz! Desktops have jumped from having 512Mb of ram to having an a excess of 8 Gig's. From Hard drive space's limited to 80 or 120Gb to Hdd's limited at 1Tb(1000Gb) and we can now have multaple Hdd's in a computer giving a massive storage capacity.. WE have graduated from parallel cabling to SATA(slow transfer speeds to fast trasnfer speeds)

We have went froma singular video card to being able to have up to 3 hooked together for a massive gaming experiance.

the limits of prolonges use.

Desktops dont really have much of a limit when it comes to extended use. It is what they are meant for. If you are going to spend a lot of time on a computer use a desktop. They are more comfortable to work with. and you dont have to worry about overheating as much as you do a laptop.

Laptops are great for taking notes in class using at work or any place where a mobile PC is handy. But extended use can cause drops in performance because laptops lack the required cooling devices because of there size to keep the PC at a low enough temp. for performance to stay steady. And becasue of limited hard drive space you can verry easily find yourself with no room left for what you want to do.
